Green Zebra Sweater Update--Trying It On

Well, here it is on Drew!  I am happy with my construction of the sweater, but I am a little bummed about how it looks on him, honestly.  It is a pretty slim fit--I wish I had made the 6 month circumference size now instead of 3 months (my gauge was off).  I am going to block it and see if I can stretch it out a bit.  I read reviews on Ravelry that this sweater was long and looked more like a sweater coat, but I wasn't sure where to make it shorter without making the whole thing too short since Drew is tall.  I think the longer length, plus the seed stitch border on the collar and sleeves gives it a bit of a feminine look...bummer!  :(  I am still not a huge fan of sweater making!  How do people make man size sweaters for their husbands??  It is so tough to get the fit just right, although I will say that it was really nice to be able to try it on Drew as I went so it was closer to the desired result.

  1. Unfortunately, it does look like a girls' coat. Nice job on it though, it's just not the right style for Drew. He is so cute, no matter what he's wearing!

  2. I do think it looks like a coat, but I think with the bold colors it doesn't look girly at all. I think some blocking would help stretch it out so he can wear it when he gets taller, and hopefully it won't look so long in the coming months....maybe Drew can wear it this summer as a light jacket?

Generally, you did a great job! I've never finished a sweater myself, so to me it's just amazing that you got this far and put it all together!

  3. The style looks a bit girly but the color combination is boyish. But I think Drew looks very handsome in it anyway! It's a bit slim fit on the boy, so if it doesn't fit next winter, you can always have another baby to dress him/her in.

  4. I actually think it's really cute. I was trying to think of why it might look a little like a girlish, and I think that the white lifelines almost look like the waistline on a coat with an empire waist. It really might look different once you take those lifelines out and have him in regular pants. The colors are definitely boyish and look great on him. I'm really impressed with your work. Sorry it didn't turn out like you had hoped, though--that must be frustrating! :(
