A guest knitter

No, this scarf was not knit by me...

Becky made it!! In just 5 hours!

I taught Becky to knit this weekend. She is such a fast learner. We practiced the knit stitch on some yarn I had in my stash, then went to pick out some yarn for her to make a scarf at my local yarn store. She picked a super soft, gorgeous alpaca yarn.

She started her scarf last night...

and when I woke up this morning it was done!

Becky even started a second project--this chunky yarn neckwarmer. The hole is a button hole for a brown, earthy button that will hold the neckwarmer together. I actually liked this yarn so much that I bought a skein too!

It's so much fun to have another friend who loves to knit! Erica, we're going to have to take a knitting vacation all together! :)

Frilly Frou Frou

This is my first attempt at a ruffly brim. It is definitely more time consuming than a regular brim because you have to cast on so many more stitches (192 for this hat). It came out really cute though. I like the faux darker purple band! The hat looks long in the second picture, but I think it is just the way I stuffed it for the picture. It is made to fit a 6-12 month old--I think! I need to borrow some friends' babes for a photo shoot!

Flash your stash

There's a funny thread going on in Ravelry (the knitting website) where people are "flashing" their "stash." Stash is what people call their collection of yarn. Some people's collections fill an entire shelving unit or cover an entire bed. Mine is growing, but is nicely contained in this rolling three drawer organizer for now. Here's a flash of all the hats I've made so far this summer!And here's a picture of my work in progress--my felted purse. The bag is actually knitting up quite quickly, but I realized that I was knitting too tightly when I changed colors, hence the puckering you see on the right side. Here's a view of all the color changes from the back:

I'm going to have to "frog" (rip out) the intarsia section and try it again with less tension..

Perky Purple

I made another hat tonight! Why not? ;)

This pattern is from my "Baby Beanies" book. It was a quick and easy project, and a great way to use up some leftover novelty yarn that couldn't be used to make an entire hat on its own.

Bear-ly enough yarn!

I made this sweet bear hat while watching a movie with Jim's mom and dad last night. It's a super easy pattern and came out cute, although I felt like I was knitting against the odds because I had only a small amount of this yarn! I skimped a tiny bit on the length of this hat to make sure I had enough for the ears.

I am not a huge fan of this Samoa yarn. It feels soft and looks good, but I have had the hardest time getting my gauge right with this yarn (hence the reason why my toddler stocking hat fits me!). I started with a size 7 needle, then went down to a 6, then went down to a 5 and I still had 4.5 stitches in an inch (it called for 5). It is not thin yarn, so I can't imagine using a size 3 with it...but maybe I need to next time! Oh well, it was a good "movie project" at any rate. And, I learned how to do ears!

I began reading up on intarsia to get ready for my felted bag project. I will need to either cut long lengths of yarn or tie center-pull bobbins so that my yarn doesn't get tangled up. I am looking forward to diving in! I need to run out and get size 13 double pointed needles before I can start.
