Portia in her Cupcake Hat

I gave the cupcake hat to our niece, Portia, this past week and it looked adorable on her!!  It fit just right, with a little extra stretch in it, as well as a little room in the top, for the upcoming fall months.  Jim took a bunch of photos of Portia in the hat.  I couldn't pick just one, so here are some of my favorites!

Drew approves of his cousin's new hat. :)

This baby girl could not be any sweeter! :)  We loved meeting her.

Cupcake Hat2

I hope it fits the baby this fall!!  I think this one looks much better than the first cupcake hat I made.  I used higher quality yarn and the color combo is better.  I've never seen this on a baby in real life, so it will be interesting to see how it looks.  I hope it's cute!

I have been on a girl hat knitting roll...

Rosebud Hat

I just finished the Rosebud Hat from Itty Bitty Hats.  I had never made this hat before; it came out cute! (The photos are all a little fuzzy--oops!)  It calls for 12 roses on top, but I only made 6.  I think it would overwhelm a little head with so many roses on top--and maybe be too heavy!

Pastel Marley Hat

Baby hat knitting season has begun!  I have three friends with babies due in the fall.  I started with a Pastel Marley hat.  I have a lot of Cotton Classic yarn in pastels from Susan B. Anderson's jackpot that Mom won for me.  I wasn't sure if I had picked a color palette that I really liked until the very end, when I attached the Marley toppers.  Those toppers really make the hat!  I decided to only do 2 toppers, instead of the 5 she wrote for in the pattern.  I think that would be a little too overwhelming on a newborn's head.

I really enjoy making baby hats for people; the only bummer is that I rarely get to see a photo of the baby in the hat!  It's hard to know if the hats I'm making are the right size for a newborn, but I always hope the baby will at least fit into it during the next cold season.

Grandma Lydia's Sweater for Me

My Grandma Lydia was a great knitter.  She knit for her own kids and for her grandkids.  My mom has given me a few of the beautiful sweaters and hats she made for me when I was a newborn.  She was very resourceful with her yarn and after one of her kids grew out of a sweater, she would frog it and use the yarn for a new project!

I didn't start knitting until about 6 years ago, after my sweet Grandma had passed away.  My mom says she would be so happy to see how much I love knitting!!  I think so, too.  It is something special that we share!

After I finished Drew's green/blue zebra sweater, my mom thought she remembered a similar sweater Grandma made me.  She went through the photo albums, and sure enough, here I am (at 14 months, too!!) modeling a sweater my Grandma knit for me!  (Click on the photo twice to enlarge.)

It's pretty amazing to see we used almost the exact same colors!
