Bebe Sachet

I saw the below photo and pattern in "Itty Bitty Nursery" and thought it would be a simple and sweet next project! The two garter stitch rectangles were easy to knit up. The embroidery was a little trickier for me. It called for using the crochet "chain stitch." I've never crocheted before, so I was searching all around online for a tutorial to teach me how! I ended up finding a picture online that helped me. I used a tapestry needle instead of a crochet hook since I'm more comfortable with that. Later I found out that Susan B. Anderson has a tutorial video for the stitch on her website--click HERE.

Anyways, below is a photo of my finished chain stitch lettering.
After doing the chain stitch, you wrap the stitches. Below is a picture of the first two letters "wrapped" and the second two letters still untouched.
Here is the finished product! I only put an accent on the second "e" so it would read like Spanish. :) I liked doing the embroidery work. It took me a few hours, but it was relaxing!

I bought some lavender at the local "Spice House" yesterday and now just need to find a ribbon I like to finish the project. I looked at Vogue, but I couldn't find a color that went well with the blue yarn I used...I want to find something kind of gauzy and sheer I think.

Road Trip Knitting

I always bring along a few different knitting projects whenever we travel to Minnesota for the weekend. Not only do they keep me entertained during the long car rides, but I have a go-to project when Jim and his brothers hang out. I made the water bottle cozy and men's hats during Christmas while the boys played video games. This time, I made baby items while the boys watched "Ninja Assassins!" ;)

Below is an umbilical cord hat knit in Spud and Chloe Sweater yarn. I made one matching bootie (second one to come!) following Susan B. Anderson's "Jelly Bean Baby Socks" pattern. The bootie came out a little longer than I thought it would, but maybe they will be good for baby in early fall.

Why do you think SBA called them "jelly bean socks?"--maybe because of the bright colors you can use in Spud and Chloe yarn? Actually, this yarn matched the jelly beans at my Minnesota shower perfectly! I finished the socks! They came out cute. I'm not sure how practical knit baby socks will actually be, but I had fun making them.

I thought I'd make a newborn size sweet pea hat for the baby since I had this super soft bamboo/acrylic yarn. It was a good mindless project to keep my hands busy. I had to knit the entire hat on double pointed needles and I'm not thrilled with the way it came out. You can't see it in the photo, but there are three distinct lines where I joined the yarn between each DPN. Maybe it will even out if I block it? Haven't made the pea pod yet.

Shh! Puppy sleeping...

What do you think of my "wrap me up puppy?" Still have to make the legs so he's staying tucked inside a blanket until then...also want to look through Mom's fabric to make him his own little wubby.
