Baby Girl Hats

It seems like all I've made lately in the hat department are baby boy hats or neutral hats.  So, I was excited to make one of my favorite girly hats for Becky's new adorable niece, Charlotte!

Upside Down Daisy Hat

Since I was in the mood for girl knitting, I also made a cupcake hat.  I learned some new crochet techniques; it called for making a picot edging and a crocheted cherry.  I was frustrated at first trying to figure out how to crochet, but after I watched a few videos I figured it out and actually enjoyed it!  I wasn't wild about the way the hat turned out though.  I don't know that it really looks like a cupcake, but I will tuck it away with the other baby girl hats I've made in case we have a girl someday.

Both are patterns from Susan B. Anderson.  The Upside Down Daisy hat is from Itty Bitty Hats and the cupcake hat is from Itty Bitty Nursery.

  1. I really like the cupcake, Kelly!! It definitely looks like a cupcake, good enough to eat! You are so talented. I also loved how the daisy hat looked on Charlotte.

  2. You are AMAZING! You already know how much I love the daisy hat for little Charlotte! She's adorable in it!

I think the cupcake hat does really look like a cupcake and is adorable! How cute would that be on a little girl for her 1st birthday?!

  3. I just started the upsidedown flower hat for the first time ever for a friend of mine who just had a baby girl. Did you use the yarn it called for? I have lots of "sugar and spice" cotton yarn so I'm using that, hope the flower still "pops up" without that special other yarn. What do you think? Also I noticed you didn't use yellow or whatever color is called for between the white petals and the green stem, and I think that looks fine (I'm gonna do the same thing).

  4. Hi! I think any yarn would work. I've made this hat twice, and I never used the yarn the pattern called for. The flower on this most recent one is made from Sugar 'N Cream. I didn't even notice that part of the stem is supposed to be yellow--oops! I think it looks fine the way it is too. Good luck--can't wait to see pics!
