| Sweater is just pinned together to give you an idea of how it will look. |
I finished the feather and fan front band tonight (complete with button holes), and then attached it to the front of the sweater with a 3 needle bind off. In order to attach the band to the front of the sweater, I had to pick up and knit 116 stitches along the right front band. It took me over an hour just to pick up those stitches!!! I kept getting close to the end and realizing I still had way more stitches to go than would fit. It's really tricky to pick up so many stitches and space them evenly apart. I told Jim that this is why no one will ever get a handknit sweater from me other than my child (small sized sweater!). When I wear and enjoy this sweater, I will know how much time and effort I put into it!!
Next up is the hem. I need to knit about a half inch more and do an I cord bind off. Then I will do the sleeves. I have a lot of yarn left. Looks like I will be able to make full length sleeves but we'll see.

looks great, I LOVE the feather and fan look, so feminine! I can't imagine picking up those stitches, how tedious! and I've never done a 3-needle bind-off, sounds complicated.
ReplyDeleteare you right on track for your class? How many class periods have you been through, and how many more are there?
Thanks! The class was only 3 sessions long, and since it was right before Christmas none of us really got enough done before each class to be close to finishing the sweater. The teacher was great though and showed us all the techniques we would need for each part of the sweater and had us practice them on scrap yarn with her supervision so she knew we'd be able to do it once we got to that point.
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! and I especially like the color.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Kelly! I love the color, the style, and the fit, great choices! It really flatters you! You've learned so many new techniques because you've challenged yourself. Don't give up, I bet Jim will have a new Aran sweater in 2012!
ReplyDeleteWow, I LOVE the front bands! Very cute ruffles. Good work!
